ETHNOLOGY AS ANTHROPOLOGY AT HOME – SOME ASPECTS OF THE TRANSLATION OF CULTURE
Abstract
The paper presents the problems of translation of national ethnology in Bulgaria into new anthropological paradigms, based on cases in the 1990s. The anthropological fieldwork and analysis are based on cultural relativism and translation. The paper discusses the problems of the translation of culture on three levels – as a paradigmatic change, as a methodological change and as “discovering research” problems in the dialogical situation of the transition to a post-socialist society. This transition is summarized by the concepts of national ethnology and anthropology at home.
