ANCIENT GREEK PREPOSITIONAL CONSTRUCTIONS IN THE GREEK GRAMMAR OF SARAFIS (THE 19th CENTURY)
Abstract
The Greek manuscript in hand, which dates back to the 19th century, was written by Gr. Sarafis and it displays the grammatical functions of Ancient Greek prepositional constructions, including a wide range of morphosyntactic features. The phenomenon is most certainly related to favouring the classical tradition during the Greek Enlightenment by reference to earlier models (revival of the dative construction). Furthermore, the Greek Grammar of Sarafis, showing specificities of Ancient Greek Syntax, presents a large corpus of prepositional dative, accusative and genitive constructions, especially the prepositional dative phrases, such as ν + dative and συν+ dative.
