INITIAL STANDARDIZATION OF NEW BULGARIAN LANGUAGE WITH REGARD TO PURISM
Abstract
The research focuses on the topic of purism during the 1830s – 1840s when the problem of the structural basis of Bulgarian language was central in the process of standardization. The kind of substitutions made by scholars provides reasons for discussing archaistic, ethnographic, reformatory and protected purism. We should not forget the fact that if the idea of the purification of Bulgarian language from foreign-language influence became one of the doctrines of the Bulgarian-Revival linguistic program, hence its national and political program; purism during this period had also nationalistic nature. Last but not least, it became an inseparable part of the effort for the education of the Bulgarian people, which makes it pedagogical as well.
