CORPUS-BASED METHODOLOGY FOR THE STUDY OF METAPHOR TRANSLATION
Abstract
Corpora are powerful tools for the study of language. They build on, complement, and sometimes defy the “linguistic intuition“ for language structures. The article reviews the existing methodologies for corpus studies that are applicable to translation studies and adapts them for the study of metaphor in translation. Comparable corpora are explained and the principles for their creation are stated, along with approaches for finding translation universals and metaphor classification with their help.
