A LEXICAL STEREOTYPE CONCERNING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN POLISH AND BULGARIAN LANGUAGES

Abstract

Disabled people did not exist in the consciousness of societies in communist countries a quarter of a century ago. It began to change since the 90s of the 20th century. Along with the evolution of our attitude towards people with disabilities, the vocabulary concerning this group of people also changes. In Polish, the concept of an invalid (inwalida) quickly disappeared, which was treated as negatively valuing and was replaced first with the term disabled person (człowiek niepełnosprawny), which has now been supplanted by a person with a disability (człowiek z niepełnosprawnością). The article will compare the vocabulary in this field and the dynamics of its development in Polish and Bulgarian languages.
