THEMATIC CLUSTERS OF HUNGARIAN LOANWORDS (FROM THE DICTIONARIES OF VUJAKLIJA, KLAIĆ AND ALEKSIĆ)
Abstract
The present study provides quantitative data on the Hungarian loanwords in Serbo-Croatian language, taken from the dictionaries of foreign words of Milan Vujaklija, Bratoljub Klaić and Radomir Aleksić. The term ‘Serbo-Croatian language’ corresponds to the period of joint development of modern Serbian and Croatian languages, which are currently in a period of divergence. The method of work is excerption, classification and analysis. All lexicographical articles involving the ‘Hungarian loanword’ marker have been traced, taking into account the meaning and the grammatical categories. All established lexical units are grouped into conceptually meaningful clusters, taking into account their presence or absence in each individual dictionary, which is the main part of the article.
There are explicable differences in numerical indicators in the dictionaries of the three authors, both according to the volume of the vocabulary included in each of them, as well as in the separate semantic clusters. Hungarian loanwords – nouns visibly predominate quantitatively over the rest parts of the speech mainly because of their nature of realia.
