LINGUISTIC ISSUES IN PREFACES TO BOOKS PUBLISHED IN THE NATIONAL REVIVAL PERIOD 1820 – 1870

Abstract

The present paper seeks to mark Bulgarian linguistic thoughts and ideas represented in prefaces published during a period of 50 years (from second to seventh decade of XIX c). It analyses the role of the prefaces as a scene of a public debate on problems of Bulgarian standard language constructing and development as well as the role of the language itself in the formation of the national awareness.
