THE LITERARY TRANSLATION COMPETITION OF 2012 OR WHY NOBODY RECEIVED 1ST PRIZE

Abstract

The article presents the results of the annual literary Bulgarian-Russian translation contest held among students all over Russia. The contestants' ways of rendering intertextualisms, foreign language inclusions and wordplay are analysed in the article. The author emphasizes the importance of increasing students' background knowledge, developing their skill of pre-translation analysis of the original text as well as their ability to identify correctly hidden elements of meaning.
