NEWS, AS IT IS: ON VERBAL VIOLENCE IN NEWSPAPER TITLES AS AN ELEMENT OF MEDIA LANGUAGE POLICY (BASED ON LANGUAGE MATERIAL FROM 24 CHASA NEWSPAPER)
Abstract
This paper describes language exponents of manipulation referring to scenes of violence presented in the Bulgarian newspaper „24 chasa“. For this purpose, I perform a review of all press headings in the column entitled Bulgaria within two weeks (from 28 September to 11 October). I draw attention to the emotional form of the message and I indicate lexemes implying violence which are used most often. I also write about purposeful selection of messages presented in the column and about falsifying the image of the Bulgarian reality, reconstructed on the basis of press data.
