THE IMPORTANCE OF FOCALIZATION IN THE CHARACTERISATION IN ANDRIC'S SHORT STORIES
Abstract
Ivo Andric’s almost entire oeuvre can be reduced to the phrase `story and storytelling`. Novels, short stories, meditative and even his essayistic prose fiction are dedicated to the art of storytelling. Therefore, the narrative becomes one of the main features of characterization. This article will indicate the semantic and thematic basis of narration, relying on a few representatives from the short stories (`Death in Sinan’s tekke`, `Anika’s times` etc). It will also discuss the potential of blending the archaic with the modern world, as well as the mythical and legendary times with the historical ones.
