THE NAME OF THE CITY OF PLOVDIV IN PAISSII’S SLAVONIC-BULGARIAN HISTORY

Abstract

The author makes the distinction that the town mentioned in Paisii’s „Slavonic-Bulgarian History“ as Philippopolis is not the town of Plovdiv, but the town Philippi whose ruins are located between the towns of Drama and Kavala. Other names of the town of Plovdiv are commented on, such as Eumolpia, Philippopolis, Pulpudeva, Trimontium, Plovdin, Puldin, and Filibe.
