PAISII HILENDARSKI’S HISTORIOGRAPHIC CONCEPT AND MEDIEVAL HISTORICAL THOUGHT

Abstract

The Historiographical Concept of Paisii Hilendarski and Medieval Historical Thought: The text explores the conceptual fundamentals of the historical thought of Paisii Hilendarski comparing those to the basic tenets of medieval historiography. It is argued that despite some seeming formal similarities, stemming from the non-critical reception of mediaeval sources, the historiographical concept of Paisii Hilendarski is utterly educational, rationalistic and ethnocentric, therefore it has not and could not have anything to do with the medieval historical thought.
