THE TRUNCATED PROVERBS: VARIATION AND CREATIVITY
Abstract
The proverbs which have a two-part structure are suitable to be reduced in speech. This phenomenon is known as truncation and primarily consists of the omission of the second part of the proverb. In this study we will try to answer the question if the truncation should be considered variation of the proverb or another mechanism of phraseological creativity.
