CONSEQUENCES OF WAR EVENTS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA ON THE EXAMPLE OF ONE CONTEMPORARY LITERARY WORK
Abstract
The difficult situation that people experienced during the civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992−1995) inspired many of them to describe events in which they participated or witnessed. A literary work written as a consequence of the war is Kraj. Its author brings in his own experience of the war, describing his getting wounded, as well as struggle for life. His narration is interrupted by short reminiscences, which have a certain function: they prove the author’s humanitas, suspicions, re-considerations and wishes. Although the described situation is connected with the war, one cannot feel any hatred. While describing events, the author names no specific towns or persons: such anonymity gives a contemporary and universal value to the book. The member of a certain nation does not lose anything, while loser, and winner, at the same time, is man.
