THE LINGUISTIC PECULIARITES IN THE WRITTEN IDIOM OF POP JOAN PETKOV (Based on the Life of St. Xenophont, part of the 1830 manuscript of Priest Yoan)
Abstract
The study includes observation of the linguistic peculiarites in the text of “Life of St. Xenophont”, which is part of the manuscript of the so-called Priest Yoan's (or Preist John’s) remake from 1830. The aims of our research are: to describe and analyze the linguistic choices of Priest Yoan in the context of the current literary and linguistic processes of the 1830s; to find out which of them are conditioned by the stylistic markings of parts of the story; to offer an answer to the question whether the studied text is a transcript or a translation based on the results of our work.
