THE PAPERS OF VASSIL CHOLAKOV IN THE CONTEXT OF DIALECTOLOGICAL RESEARCHES DURING THE BULGARIAN NATION REVIVAL PERIOD

Abstract

The current research analyzes some papers and philological thoughts of Vassil Cholakov – a Bulgarian writer, scholar and cleric from the 19th century better known as one of the first Bulgarian ethnologists and folklorists. It examines his work in the context of the history of Bulgarian dialectology during the National Revival period and his role in the introduction, presentation and interpretation of some phonetic, grammatical and lexical differences and features of Bulgarian dialects, presented in Cholacov’s book ‘Bulgarian folk collection’ (1872).
