STYLISTIC AND SOCIOPRAGMATIC ASPECTS OF THE CONCEPT OF COVERT PRESTIGE
Abstract
The article views the concept of prestige from a pragmatic–discursive point of view, which means its manifestations are studied on a verbal interaction level. Prominence is given to some aspects of the sociocultural context and characteristics of the communicative situation, such as domains of communication, social identity of participants in specific communicative interactions. An attempt is made to find connections between covert prestige and concepts such as social identity, stylistic variation, verbal politeness, face, affiliation and group solidarity.
