TO THE PROBLEM OF USING PROPER NAMES WITH A DEFINITE ARTICLE
Abstract
The aim of the study is to look for an explanation to the question: under which conditions the use of articles is allowed with proprial units, which, because of their inherent definiteness, generally do not need further determination. In view of the common usage of the definite article in the various proprial classes, not only the word-forming peculiarities of the onyma, but also the discoursal distinction between formality – informality are taken into account. From this position, the cases of adding an article to proper names are considered, as well as the functional value of the definite article itself.
