In this paper we investigate the conceptualization of surprise in phraseological units in Bulgarian and Greek language. We focus on the analysis of metaphorical models using cognitive metaphor theory tools. Our findings allow the preliminary conclusion that both languages employ similar metaphorical models to conceptualize the emotion of surprise. The analysis of the phraseological material shows that the axiologically neutral and negative phraseological units predominate in both languages.en_US
