One of the main morphological Balkanizes (Balkanizms) is the replacement of synthetic forms in Balkan languages with analytical constructions. This is valid to the greatest extent for Greek language too, even though it is not a Central Balkan language. The tendencies to analytics could be noticed mainly in the replacement of case relations with prepositional schemes. The present report is meant to demonstrate the falling off of the dative case in Greek language and the ways though which its functions are taken over by competitive prepositional combinations or other casual forms (including the genitive /possessive/ case).en_US
