Andric’s novels represent a complex narrative structure. It is a mosaic structure, a unique synthesis of both traditional and modern forms of narrative, confirming that a novel is the most unconventional, open literary genre, able to encompass all genres. At the microstructural level of the novel The Bridge on the Drina, for example, we recognize a chronicle, a myth, a biblical legend, apocalyptic writings, parabola, demonological legends, a fairy tale, a story, but also a lyric and epic poem, a curse, a blessing, a saying. The writer deconstructs the traditional forms, innovates and reinterprets, and therefore his novels are hybrid creations, both traditional and universal. This is also supported by the observation that The Damned Yard, although based on traditional forms, is the first modern novel in Serbian literature.en_US
