Andriс’s perception of Islam in Bosnia and Herzegovina in his literary works is widely known, accepted and disputed. However, it is less known that such understanding of Islam was not the consequence of writer’s imagination, but of his scholar and research work, as a historian, which was clearly and undoubtedly expressed in his doctoral thesis titled “Razvoj duhovnog života u Bosni pod uticajem turske vladavine”, defended at the Faculty of Philosophy in Graz, in 1924. The aim of this paper is to enlighten the scientific foundations of the scholar and research methods of the historical science which Andric used to form his own opinion on Islam in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which influenced greatly his literary works.en_US
