CONCEPTIONS OF TUESDAY AMONG SOUTH AND EAST SLAVS
Abstract
The paper covers popular conceptions of Tuesday among South and East Slavs. By means of a comparative approach, the paper presents an analysis of the names for the day of Tuesday among South and East Slavs, as well as popular beliefs and rites of custom. Special emphasis is laid to established expressions and popular chrononyms as elements involved in the semanticization of Tuesday. The study points out the prevalence of the image of Tuesday as a negative for South Slavs and an absolute positive among East Slavs.
