ON THE PECULIAR CASE OF THE FUNCTIONING OF THE DEFINITE ARTICLE (DEFINITENESS~INDEFINITENESS) IN CONTEMPORARY BULGARIAN MEDIA

Abstract

The object of the present study is one peculiar case of the functioning of the category of determination (definiteness~indefiniteness) in the contemporary Bulgarian media. This category is a distinctive feature of the contemporary Bulgarian language. In recent times, deviations of the normative use of this category are often observed in the titles of some Bulgarian media (mainly in relation to sports). These deviations are expressed in the use of adjectives without a definite article in conjunctions with proper nouns. The aim of the current study is to analyze this innovative media strategy.
