    Abstract
This paper focuses on some of the peripheral modifiers in the field of the morphological category of mood in Bulgarian and Russian, and in particular, the lexical devices used to express imperativity. The comparative aspect of this research is aimed at identifying the similarities and differences between the two languages under comparison in terms of the potentiality of each one to express the notion of ‘the speaker's will’ through lexical devices. The theoretical background of the study is A. V. Bondarko's theory of functional-semantic fields.
