THE PREDICATIVE INSTRUMENTAL AND ITS PLACE IN RUSSIAN VARIANT OF CHURCH SLAVONIC (BASED ON TEXTS WRITTEN BETWEEN 1700 AND 1730)
Abstract
The article discusses some cases of using predicative instrumental instead of predicative nominative, double dative or double accusative in several Church Slavonic texts written in the first third of 18th century. Based on the excerpted examples, the author tries to find a possible rule that determines under what conditions the use of predicative instrumental is allowed in the two types of Church Slavonic, standard and hybrid. The analysis shows that in general the nominative is preferred both in standard and in hybrid texts and the instrumental is more widely used just in the hybrid ones.
