ON THE ETYMOLOGY OF THE BULGARIAN ADJECTIVE FRAGILE“WHICH DOES NOT BEND, BUT CRUMBLES”, DIALECTAL.“(ABOUT LAUGH) RINGING”
Abstract
On the basis of registered formal variability and phonetic uncertainty in the root, of restored archaic, presumably pre-Indo-European, reduplication and diffusion in meaning, the author makes the assumption of ancient soundsymbolic origin of the adjective fragile “which does not bend, but crumbles” (dialectal.) “(about laugh) ringing” and other related units that belong to various Proto-Slavic etymological nests.
