THE SHUTOSH: JOURNALISTIC TRANSFORMATIONS AND PERSONAL CHALLENGES
Abstract
The study discusses the opportunities which Revival period humorist periodicals offer for shaping, in particular ways, the public image of leading public figures during the period of the Bulgarian Revival. The transformations occurring in established journalistic genres, rubrics and prioritized themes expand the scope for experimentation, especially as far as opportunities for
satisfying personal and other (for instance, political) challenges and ambitions went. One of the intriguing developments in this respect, which is traced in detail here, is the gradual construction of the satirical image of Petko Slaveikov as it unfolded on the pages of Shutosh newspaper.
