XX CENTURY IN RETROSPECTION – GÜNTER GRASS AND PATRIK OUŘEDNÍK AS CHRONICLERS OF THE LAST CENTURY
Abstract
The article offers a comparison between Patrick Ouředník's Europeana
and Günter Grass’s My Century. The main focus is on the two books as
chronicles of the XXth century with its destructive wars, regimes and ideologies
and their impact on ordinary people’s lives. The texts argues that the
common trait of both authors is their restraint and moderation with regards to
the moral evaluation of the past century despite its atrocities, destructiveness
and crimes.
