MODELING OF SUBJECT WORLDS IN BIOLOGY AND LITERARY CRITICISM. AN ESSAY ON BARIERATA (THE BARRIER) BY PAVEL VEZHINOV
Abstract
This paper aims to construct a theoretical model in order to allow us to
rethink the concept of literary worlds. The basis of this attempt is the work of
the biologist Jakob von Uexküll and his main idea of Umwelt. This purpose
suggests the construction of a bridge between theoretical biology and literary
criticism, which actually requires a process of selfmodeling in the literary
field. The new theoretical model is functionalized through a rereading of the
short novel The Barrier by Pavel Vezhinov.
