dc.description.abstract | The study is focused on the short story “Magnetism and dushebortsi” (1856), its source, “Some Words with a Mummy” (1974) and some other “fearful” narratives from that time. These short stories were connected with attempts to throw a glance beyond the available to the senses in this case – beyond death – and to portray sinister figures and organizations such as the Inquisition. The paper strives to read this group of texts in the context of their contemporary political developments such as the Greek-Bulgarian conflict about the authority of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and in terms of the general evolution of literature and the reception of some (pseudo) scientific ideas. | en_US |
