In the context of this study, gender-marked dictionary-registered phraseological units (PUs) in the Serbian/Croatian and Bulgarian languages are analyzed, identifying the common but distinctive features in the structure and semantics of these PUs, an illustration of the specific Balkan morality with remnants of matriarchy suppressed by dominant patriarchy. Based on the excerpted material, it is established that the PUs of this type in the Bulgarian language have a significant quantitative advantage over the same PUs in the Serbian and Croatian languages. Generally speaking, in all three languages, these combinations do not represent the best qualities, traits and role of the female at all.en_US
