The article traces the areas of concurrence between art and life in the 1950s, and the pragmatics of social realism as a program of spiritual and material production. Literary models, which could be observed to have had an influence on the development of the so-called production novel in Bulgaria in the 1950s, have been examined: russian production novels, western production novels, the popular russian genre „lubok“. Listed here are the most important features of this type of literature, which is devoted to labor, which helps the formation of public consciousness during the period of socialism.en_US
