This text is a functional and semantic analysis of a particular interjection whose usage is considered by many to be typical of the Balkans and whose meaning is represented in Bulgarian by the verb „to click one’s tongue“. The idea is to test A. Wierzbicka’s statement that interjections are mostly based on culture-specific conventions, rather than on the universal laws of nature. For this purpose we shall attempt to generally outline the ethnic features of this particular lexical unit at the background of other Slavic languages – mainly Czech and Russian.en_US
