LINGUO-CULTURAL ANALYSIS OF THE SEMANTICS OF THE COLORS WHITE, RED AND BLACK IN BULGARIAN AND CHINESE

Abstract

The main goal of the study is to establish the differences and similarities in how the colors white, black and red are perceived in the two languages and cultures. For this purpose, the paper sets several tasks: to apply etymological and semantic analysis to 24 phraseological combinations; to analyze the use of the specified colors from a linguo-cultural perspective; to examine color semantics based on folk symbolism and psychology in the two cultures. The study consists of three parts: Chapter one “Theory”, which introduces the concept of “phraseology” in Bulgarian and Chinese linguistics. Chapter two “Cultural semiotic analysis of the colors white, black and red in Bulgarian and Chinese culture”, which presents an analysis the mentioned of colors with examples from the two nations’ folklore and mythology. Chapter three “Analysis of phraseological units”, which analyzes 24 phraseological combinations from Bulgarian and Chinese.
