WHAT IS ТЕМЕЛНѤ, OR WAYS OF MEASURING AND INDICATING TIME IN OLD BULGARIAN EPIGRAPHS (XII–XV C.)
Abstract
The report examines the ways of measuring and marking time in epigraphic monuments composed in Old Bulgarian and dated from the 12th to the 15th centuries. The study includes both entire periods and specified dates – days, months, years, indictions. In the process of analysis, a translation and explanation are provided for the atypical use of the lexeme “темелне”, documented only in the chronogram inscription at the entrance to the church in Orlitsa near the Rila Monastery.
The aim of the study is to expand the understanding of scientific knowledge among Bulgarians during the Second Bulgarian Empire, as well as to provide a translation of individual terms related to chronology from that era.
