The current paper seeks to study the various uses of nature-related images and symbols in the poetry of Nikola Vaptsarov. The Sun and the sky are engaged in some of the paramount juxtapositions in Vaptsarov’s texts – the clashes between animate and inanimate nature, between past and present, between reality and dreams. The image of the homeland carries contradictory meanings as well – it is both a sacred piece of land and an institution of political repression.en_US
