The present paper deals with the question of the existence of the independent nuclear functional-semantic field “evidentiality” in Modern Bulgarian. Attention is focused on its periphery, including the lexical and syntactic means by which the speaker presents himself as an eyewitness of the reported fact as well as the transpositions between the evidentiality grammeme and the main meaning of the unmarked indirect evidential grammeme – distance. The use of peripheral direct evidential modifiers in texts of different genres is presented.en_US
