THE ROAD OF AND THE ROAD TO ‘THE LOST CHILD’ IN LYUBEN KARAVELOV’S NOVELS TURSKI PASHA (TURKISH PASHA) AND NEDA

Abstract

The author of this paper refers to Nikolai Aretov’s thesis in an attempt to prove that the plot about “the lost child” has a strong domination in a variety of literary works, but the main focus is on two of Lyuben Karavelov’s novels, A Turkish Pasha and Neda. In one of his monographs, Aretov insists that in the literature from the period of the Bulgarian Revival there are a very few examples of literary works where the main focus of the plot is on abducted kids. “The lost child” is a metaphor implying different meanings which give us the opportunity to interpret it in a variety of ways. The loss of children is analysed both in its literal and in its figurative meaning. The use of two different prepositions helps in expanding the level of interpretation.
