ON THE SPECIAL PHONETIC FEATURES OF CHINESE DIALECTS

Abstract

The study examines data about phonetic features of Chinese dialects. It summarizes information found in English and Russian research, and reaches conclusions about the main characteristics of various Chinese dialects. The paper draws a parallel between dialectal features and ethnic groups in China. It claims that special attention must be paid to the phonetic features of dialects since being familiar with these characteristics is of key importance for learners of Chinese as a Foreign language.
