In the present work, I examine the problem of Russian emigration from the so-called First Wave, which reached its apogee in the beginning of the twentieth century. I address the issue of its peculiarity, which is why it is defined as an unprecedented phenomenon. I outline the boundaries of Russian “distraction”, the reasons that determine it, and the participants in the process. I also discuss the topic of the continuity of Russian culture and traditions in the conditions of new surroundings different from home. In the context of the examined topic, the concepts of identity and memory are considered. A brief conceptual apparatus, introduced by other researchers, is also offered.en_US
